Heavenly Father is perfectly just and merciful. So, the way that I see it is this … at some point the scales of justice will be balanced. To get a visual picture of this, think of the statue of Lady Justice that usually stands outside of every court house in this country. She is blindfolded holding a scale in her hands. Picture all of the trials and adversity in your life being weights that are placed on one side of Lady Justice’s scale. And on the other side of the scale goes all the joy, happiness and good things in your life. The scriptures teach the following (2 Nephi 2:11):
“It must needs be, that there is an opposition in all things.”
This teaches us that trials and adversity are part of the plan. The question then becomes is your scale balanced or not? What does that scale look like for you? Is it balanced or lopsided?
If it is lopsided, then at some point in your existence, Heavenly Father promises that the scale will be balanced. Meaning at some point all of the sorrow, pain and suffering that I have experienced in my life will be balanced out with joy and happiness. However, it isn’t up to me to decide when that happens. I just know that it will. The scriptures promise this. D&C 58:2 says this:
“… he that is faithful in tribulation, the reward of the same is greater in the kingdom of heaven.”
So, with this promise we can be confident that for everything that is bad that has happened to us in our lives, Heavenly Father will bless us with blessings so grand that they will offset all of the pain that we have every felt. What a wonderful and amazing promise! The trick to it is we have to wait for Heavenly father to decide when that scale gets balanced. Don’t get discouraged because it is my opinion that not only will Heavenly Father balance your scale with joy and happiness but He will over bless you with it!
